Liberty Lake Park, Bedford Virginia
WHERE: 939 Burks Hill Road Bedford, Virginia 24523
WHAT: Concrete park, mostly a giant oval with each end banked up with a steep, almost jersey-wall style, curved quarter pipe. There’s also a long mini-bump in the center.
GOOD: fun, weird old-timey spot. It was built long enough ago that it was originally a rollerskating park. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere and very chill.
BAD: Not much for variety, so you have to be pretty creative not to run out of things to do.
PADS: none required
FREE OR PAY: free
DIRECTIONS: google maps
OVERALL: If you’re in the area, stop by, it’s fun. Just don’t make it the only destination on the trip.

If only the rollerskating-park part was true. That sounds so good. I am old enough relic to remember when this park was poured (around 1987). It was sadly made for skateboarding, and I still remember the riding in the back of some rednecks’ pickup truck up from Roanoke to skate it. My friend Rob did early-grab fs airs on it back then, which he would later translate to legit vert ramps.
I was excited to see the local park on this site. This spot is also great for little ones with bikes when there are no skateboarders there :)
